Sport Coaching University Student Placement

ABOUT THE ROLE Winchester College is offering four undergraduate students who are currently undertaking a relevant Sports Coaching degree at a UK university the opportunity to gain meaningful applied experience in a leading school-based sports coaching environment. This placement is suitable for students undertaking formal university placement modules or those seeking independent coaching experience. The role will primarily involve working alongside and supporting sport-specific coaching staff in the planning, delivery and evaluation of sessions across Winchester College’s games programme. Once their competence and suitability have been assessed, students may occasionally be given responsibility for a group, with appropriate supervision and support arrangements in place. Opportunities will be tailored to each student’s coaching specialism in one or more of the following sports: football, cricket, hockey, netball, athletics, rowing, basketball, tennis, squash and badminton. Participants will develop a deeper understanding of long-term player development, age-appropriate coaching and the balance between participation and performance pathways in a school sport setting. The placement also offers insight into the wider sporting ecosystem, providing the chance to collaborate with sports coaches, teaching staff and pastoral teams. RESPONSIBILITIES OF SPORTS COACHING UNIVERSITY PLACEMENT STUDENTS Key Responsibilities To provide enthusiastic and high-quality technical / tactical coaching, with the effective use of appropriate resources and the highest standards of learning and achievement of all pupils.
