About this role
High Grange School is an outstanding, specialist independent school for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated needs. We are seeking to appoint a Specialist Maths Teaching Assistant to work within our Maths department and deliver targeted support for pupils with dyscalculia and significant barriers in numeracy.
This is not a typical Teaching Assistant role.
You will work closely with the Maths Lead and wider team to support high-quality Maths provision, alongside delivering 1:1 and small group interventions that build pupils’ confidence, understanding and independence in Maths.
What makes this role different?
A clear focus on specialist numeracy support and intervention
Opportunities to deliver targeted 1:1 dyscalculia support
Close working within a multi-disciplinary team (MDT)
A highly structured, autism-informed approach to learning
A school culture that prioritises doing things properly, not quickly
We are looking for someone who:
Has strong Maths knowledge (ideally to GCSE level or above)
Has experience of, or a strong interest in, supporting pupils with dyscalculia and numeracy difficulties
Understands (or is committed to learning about) autism and neurodiversity
Can break down mathematical concepts into clear, manageable steps
Is calm, patient and able to build confidence in pupils over time
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled and reflective practitioner to develop within a specialist setting and make a meaningful impact on pupils’ learning and independence.
