Are you a skilled IT professional looking for a more balanced role that combines hands-on advanced troubleshooting with long-term endpoint design?
Cheltenham College is seeking an experienced, approachable, proactive Senior IT Technician who will take technical ownership of our diverse endpoint environment, managing over 1,400 predominately Apple endpoints.
You will join a well-resourced IT Support team of seven. While our four front-line technicians handle initial user support and service fulfilment, you will act as the escalation point for complex device, operating system, and deployment issues across the College.
The Role
This is an active, hands-on role where you will divide your time between advanced device engineering and resolving escalated user support queries. You will focus on:
• Endpoint Architecture & Management: Configure, maintain, and optimize Microsoft Intune and Jamf (Pro/School) environments. Design and deploy device compliance policies, configuration profiles, and automated patch management workflows.
• Advanced Escalation & Support: Take ownership of complex 2nd line support tickets escalated by front-line technicians. Diagnose and resolve advanced device, software application, and user profile issues.
• Application Packaging & Deployment: Build, test, and deploy software packages across macOS, iOS and Windows operating systems.
• Supplier & Project Collaboration: Partner on cross-department projects and work with specialist suppliers.
• Teamwork & Occasional Saturday Support: Help with first-line tickets during busy periods and cover the Saturday rota (1 in 6 term-time).
• Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Create technical documentation and standard operating procedures.
