Job Purpose
The Pastoral Manager will provide operational leadership of pastoral systems within an allocated year group(s) or phase, supporting high standards of behaviour, attendance, safeguarding and student wellbeing.
The postholder will be visibly present and operationally available throughout the school day to respond to pastoral issues, support behaviour systems and ensure that students are able to engage positively in learning.
Working closely with senior leaders, teaching staff and external agencies, the Pastoral Manager will co-ordinate targeted interventions, manage complex student casework and address barriers to learning swiftly and effectively. The role will play a key part in promoting a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment where all students are supported to achieve their potential.
Key Responsibilities
Behaviour and Student Conduct
Provide a visible and proactive pastoral presence across designated year groups throughout the school day, responding promptly to behaviour incidents and supporting the consistent implementation of behaviour systems.
Monitor behaviour patterns within the year group and contribute to strategic planning to reduce suspensions and improve engagement.
Co-ordinate follow-up interventions for students at risk of suspension or disengagement, including restorative work and behaviour support planning.
Lead reintegration planning following suspension, managed moves or periods of absence from school.
Work constructively with parents and carers to address behavioural concerns and resolve conflict where appropriate.
Safeguarding and Student Welfare
Act as a key operational contact for safeguarding concerns, ensuring that issues are recorded accurately and escalated appropriately in line with safeguarding procedures.
