About this role

We are seeking a caring, resilient and skilled Nurture Teacher to lead a small, targeted nurture group within our secondary SEMH provision. Our site supports approximately 40 secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Within this wider cohort, a smaller group of approximately 10 pupils require a more nurturing and developmentally appropriate approach to learning. These pupils are of secondary school age but are currently working at levels more typically associated with the primary phase. The Nurture Teacher will take responsibility for this group, providing a consistent, supportive and engaging learning environment that enables pupils to develop the foundational academic, social and emotional skills they need to make progress. This is not simply about delivering a primary curriculum within a secondary setting. The successful candidate will understand how to take primary-level learning objectives and make them age-respectful, relevant and engaging for secondary-aged pupils. The role requires a teacher who understands that successful learning for this group begins with strong relationships, emotional safety, predictable routines and appropriately pitched teaching. Key Responsibilities Teaching and Learning Take responsibility for the teaching and learning of a targeted nurture cohort of approximately 10 pupils. Plan and deliver a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum appropriate to pupils' individual developmental and academic starting points. Deliver high-quality teaching in core areas including English, reading, phonics where appropriate, writing and mathematics. Adapt primary-level learning objectives and approaches so that resources and activities remain appropriate and respectful for secondary-aged pupils. Identify gaps in pupils' foundational knowledge and provide targeted teaching to address them.
