About this role
Our Music Department sits at the heart of school life, and this role sits at the heart of the department. From the smooth running of individual lessons to the staging of a major concert, a great deal happens behind the scenes to ensure each occasion runs without a hitch — and this post is central to making that happen.
As Music Department Administrator, you will provide the administrative backbone for a large and accomplished department, working closely with the Director of Music to ensure its day-to-day operations run efficiently and to a high standard. You will often be the first point of contact for parents, pupils and visiting staff, and the role carries real responsibility for the impression the department makes.
The work is varied and demanding in the best sense: coordinating visiting music staff, managing room and lesson logistics, liaising with colleagues across catering, estates and IT in preparation for events, supporting Scholarship and audition arrangements, and overseeing departmental finances and records. It is a role that rewards precision, discretion and a calm head, set against the backdrop of a department that is constantly preparing for its next performance.
Music is, by its nature, a department whose work does not stop at the end of the school day. Concerts, recitals and events form a regular part of departmental life, and the successful candidate will need to be genuinely flexible about working hours, with a willingness to attend evening and occasional weekend events as part of the normal pattern of the role.
The successful candidate will be
Highly organised, with the ability to manage a demanding and varied workload with composure
Personable and diplomatic, with strong relationship-building skills across parents, pupils and staff
Capable of using sound judgement and initiative when prioritising competing demands
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, with experience of managing budgets, records and correspondence
Genuinely flexible regarding
