Job OverviewThe Head of Secondary English & Social Studies is responsible for leading the English department across Secondary levels and overseeing the Lower Secondary Social Studies programme.
The role reports to the Secondary Principal and works closely with senior leadership to ensure alignment with the school’s academic direction, curriculum expectations, and whole-school priorities.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading high-quality teaching and learning in Secondary English, including curriculum planning, assessment, moderation, and standards.
Demonstrating strong expertise in the Cambridge IGCSE English curriculum, including First Language English (FLE) and English as a Second Language (ESL).
Ensuring coherence and progression across English pathways, including supporting students transitioning between ESL, FLE, and mainstream English.
Supporting teachers in implementing effective strategies for students with English as an Additional Language (EAL), ensuring access to the curriculum while maintaining high academic expectations.
Overseeing the Lower Secondary Social Studies programme (History and Geography), ensuring coherent humanities exposure that strengthens literacy, analytical thinking, and global awareness.
