About this role
Head of Physics, start date August 2026
We are seeking an outstanding teacher and leader of Physics who will be an ambitious and dynamic colleague who shares our vision of teaching as a vocation, and who will seize an exciting opportunity to work at Rugby School Japan (RSJ).
All teachers are expected to teach a range of age and ability groups from Year 7 through to the Sixth Form. Physics is a compulsory subject for all pupils up to Year 11, where each of the three sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) is taught separately by subject specialists. Pupils are either entered for examinations in Cambridge IGCSE Physics or in Coordinated Science IGCSE. Pupils in the Sixth Form follow the Cambridge A-level course. In this appointment, we are looking for an experienced teacher who can teach Physics A-level to the very top end of pupils.
Building upon the significant achievements of the Department thus far, the successful candidate will lead and further develop the Physics Department as a flagship department as the School enters its fourth year. Collaboration with the Heads of Biology and Chemistry will be crucial.
The post holder will also be expected to make a full contribution to the pastoral and co-curricular life of the School.
