About this role

We are seeking to appoint a Curriculum Leader for Sociology and Criminology on a permanent basis, to commence in August 2026. The role is paid on the Leadership Scale, points 1 - 2, currently £60,449 to £62,002 per annum. Criminology and Sociology is a subject cluster, led by the Curriculum Leader, and all of the courses are taught by an enthusiastic and expert team of specialists. We deliver the AQA specification for both Sociology courses (GCSE and A Level). Sociology topics currently taught include Work, Poverty and Welfare, Education, The Media, Crime and Deviance and Theory and Methods. Criminology has a broad unit-based structure with a wide range of skills being test through the two Controlled Assessments and two exams. We deliver the Eduqas Level 3 Applied Criminology with all students on the two-year Diploma course. Both Criminology and Sociology are very popular subjects within the College, attracting a diverse range of students, with interesting ideas, who are willing and able to make valuable contributions. We seek and maintain successful partnerships with external organisations such as the Examination Board and local universities. We are actively involved in initial teacher training (ITT) and very much welcome trainee teachers to the team. Curriculum Leaders and subject teams work closely with Senior Leadership to interrelate subject content, skills and support for students. All subject tutors are constantly seeking to improve and find innovative ways to engage students whilst enhancing examination skills. We set high expectations of ourselves and our students to help all achieve their full potential, using rigorous assessment and timely feedback to ensure learners make excellent progress throughout their time with us and attain highly in their final exams and assessments.
