About this role
We are looking for an outstanding and experienced colleague who is committed to empowering Deaf / hard of hearing pupils to fully access and thrive within a mainstream academic environment to join our Learning Support Department and provide support on a 1-1 basis to one Key Stage 3 pupil.
Our focus is firmly placed on academic excellence for all. Worksop College is entering an exciting phase in its development, and we therefore wish to recruit dynamic and self-starting staff to work with us in fulfilling our aims and objectives.
Key Responsibilities
To provide support for the pupil to communicate with their teaching/support staff and other pupils in/out of lessons
To facilitate optimal access to the curriculum by interpretation of spoken language and implementation of alternative teaching strategies and materials
To support the pupil with accessing all areas of the curriculum and life at the College
To raise awareness and understanding of the Deaf / hard of hearing community and build the profile of Communication Support within Worksop College and its wider community
To be an active member of the Learning Support team
Provide communication support appropriate to the individual needs of the pupil as directed by the Head of Learning Support and/or teaching staff.
Support the pupil by lip speaking, note taking and interpreting between spoken English and BSL/SSE (signed spoken English).
Assist the pupil in the classroom with the use of learning resources, including digital based resources, specialist equipment aids and adapting learning materials so that the pupil can understand them more easily.
Contribute to the creation of a bank of learning resources to support pupil(s).
Working with the Learning Support team to plan activities to support pupils with their studies.
To follow procedures accurately for the monitoring, assessment and recording of the pupils’ progress and impact of work timely and in line with college requirements.
