Sherborne Schools Group is seeking a dedicated, caring, and highly organised Assistant Matron to join the pastoral team at Sherborne Boys. This is a rewarding and varied role that sits at the heart of boarding house life, supporting the welfare, wellbeing, and day-to-day care of pupils. Working closely with the Matron and Housemaster, the Assistant Matron will help ensure that the House provides a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment in which boys feel happy, secure, and able to flourish both academically and personally.
As a key member of the House team, the Assistant Matron will play an important role in developing positive relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues, acting as a trusted and approachable presence within the boarding community. The successful candidate will provide practical, pastoral, medical, domestic, and administrative support, helping to maintain the smooth and efficient operation of the House while ensuring high standards of care are consistently delivered. The role requires an individual who is compassionate, professional, discreet, and able to respond calmly and effectively to a variety of situations.
The Assistant Matron will support pupils with their everyday needs, offering encouragement, reassurance, and guidance where appropriate, while remaining attentive to their wellbeing and personal development. Responsibilities will include assisting with pupil welfare, administering medications in line with School procedures, maintaining accurate records, liaising with parents and healthcare professionals, supporting laundry and housekeeping functions, and assisting with House events and activities. The post holder will also take responsibility for aspects of the House during periods when the Matron is absent and will contribute to creating a positive and nurturing boarding experience for all pupils.
