About this role
The Role
We are seeking a warm, committed and enthusiastic Assistant Houseparent (Live‑In) to join the boarding team at our independent school in Scotland. This is a residential role and forms a vital part of the school’s pastoral provision, supporting pupils in a welcoming, structured and nurturing boarding environment.
Working closely with the Houseparent, you will help provide a safe, caring and well‑organised home‑from‑home, supporting pupils’ wellbeing, routines and personal development throughout the school week and at designated weekends.
Key Responsibilities
Support the daily operation of the boarding house, including morning, evening and bedtime routines
Live on site and be available to pupils as a responsible and approachable adult
Provide high‑quality pastoral care and support pupils’ emotional and social wellbeing
Supervise pupils during free time, meals, study periods and activities
Assist with behaviour management in line with school policies
Help maintain a calm, positive and inclusive boarding environment
Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams and senior boarding staff
Keep appropriate records and follow safeguarding and child protection procedures
Assist with weekend duties and boarding activities on a rota basis

Have a genuine commitment to supporting children and young people
Be patient, resilient and able to build positive, professional relationships
Enjoy working as part of a close residential team
Be well organised with strong communication skills
Be flexible and comfortable with the demands of a live‑in role
Have experience working with young people (education, care, youth or residential settings)
Qualifications & Safeguarding
Relevant childcare, education or pastoral qualifications are advantageous
Registration with SSSC or the willingness to work towards it
Appointment is subject to PVG Scheme membership and satisfactory references
