The false choice we're sleepwalking into
We're at a genuinely decisive moment for digital in our schools and I don't think enough people are noticing what's actually happening. The conversation has shifted – and not in a helpful direction. Listen carefully to the public debate at the moment and you'll hear three or four very different concerns being mashed together into one big lump. Worries about AI and cognitive offloading. Worries about phones and social media. Worries about screen time at home. Worries about attention, behaviour, mental health. All real, all worth talking about. But somehow, they've all become evidence for the same conclusion: technology in schools is the problem, so the answer is to take it out.
