Teaching Assistant (Years 5–8)

📍 Hazlegrove Preparatory School, Somerset ⏰ Full Time | Term Time 📅 Start Date: September 2026 (or sooner if available) Hazlegrove Preparatory School is seeking a caring, enthusiastic and committed Teaching Assistant to join our thriving Middle and Upper School team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children’s learning and wellbeing within a warm, supportive and ambitious school community. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support pupils across Years 5–8, including pupils with additional learning needs and SEND. Working Hours Monday to Friday (Term Time Only) Two days: 8.15am – 6.00pm One day: 8.15am – 5.00pm Two days: 8.00am – 4.00pm 30-minute unpaid lunch break each day Total: 41.75 hours per week Key Responsibilities Supporting pupils in class, in small groups and on a one-to-one basis Assisting with intervention programmes and targeted support Helping to promote pupils’ academic progress, independence and wellbeing Supporting children during playtimes, lunches and school activities Providing reading and scribing support during assessments where appropriate Monitoring and recording pupil progress and wellbeing Assisting with behaviour management in line with the school’s policies Administering first aid where required Supporting school trips, clubs and wider school life About You We are looking for someone who: Enjoys working with children and building positive relationships Is patient, nurturing and adaptable Has excellent communication and teamwork skills Can work professionally with colleagues and parents Is organised, proactive and willing to contribute to school life Has experience supporting children in an educational setting (preferred) Has experience of supporting pupils with SEND (desirable) What We Offer A welcoming and supportive staff team Opportunities for professional development and training A beautiful working environment within a leading preparator
