About this role
Job PurposeTo support pupils’ emotional wellbeing, behaviour, and engagement in learning. The Wellbeing Lead will play a key role in providing pastoral support, delivering targeted interventions, and acting as a trusted adult for students who may be vulnerable or experiencing barriers to learning.
Key Responsibilities
Wellbeing & Pastoral Support
Act as a key adult for identified pupils, building positive and trusting relationships
Provide 1:1 and small group support focused on emotional wellbeing
Support pupils with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs
Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies
Support pupils during key times of the school day (transitions, break, lunch)
Intervention Delivery
Deliver targeted interventions such as:
Emotional Literacy Support (ELSA)
Trauma-Informed Practice (TIP) approaches
Dyadic Developmental Practice (DDP)-informed support
Support development of coping strategies, resilience, and social skills
Monitor, record, and evaluate the impact of interventions
Safeguarding & Inclusion
Work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
Identify and report safeguarding concerns in line with school policies
Support vulnerable pupils and those at risk of exclusion
Assist with reintegration following absence or suspension
Collaboration
Work alongside teaching staff, SENCo, and pastoral team
Liaise with parents/carers and external professionals where appropriate
Contribute to a consistent, supportive, and inclusive school environment
Person Specification
Essential:
Experience working with children or young people, ideally within a secondary school
Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs and/or challenging behaviour
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to build positive relationships and act as a role model
Good understanding of safeguarding responsibilities
Desirable:
Training or experience in:
Emotional Literacy Support (ELSA)
Trauma-Informed Practice (TIP)
