About this role

At Rhyddings, we believe in “Personal Best – No Excuses” and are committed to providing every pupil with a warm, welcoming and ambitious learning environment where they can thrive both academically and personally. Our Spanish curriculum plays an important role in this vision by broadening horizons, developing cultural understanding and preparing pupils for life beyond school. The Spanish department is a small, collaborative and supportive team that values strong relationships, shared ideas and a collective commitment to improving outcomes for all pupils. Staff work closely together to plan engaging lessons, share resources and celebrate successes. We are passionate about creating a positive classroom culture where pupils feel confident to communicate, take risks and develop resilience. Spanish is taught for two lessons per week at KS3 and three lessons per week at KS4, allowing pupils to build strong foundations in speaking, listening, reading and writing. We aim to make learning meaningful and relevant by helping pupils understand how languages connect to the wider world. Alongside the curriculum, pupils explore Hispanic culture through the celebration of cultural festivals, podcasts, music and real-world links to careers and employment opportunities where Spanish is an advantage. The department is committed to enriching experiences outside the classroom. Last academic year, pupils took part in a highly successful trip to Madrid, giving them the opportunity to experience Spanish language and culture first-hand while building independence, confidence and aspiration. At Rhyddings, we want pupils to leave us as respectful, culturally aware young people who are prepared for the opportunities of modern Britain and the wider world. Spanish plays a key role in achieving this by encouraging curiosity, communication and global understanding.
