About this role
The role
Nottingham Girls' High School is seeking an outstanding and entrepreneurial musician to join our thriving Music Department in a unique hybrid role that combines instrumental teaching with ensemble leadership.
This exciting opportunity offers the chance to establish and develop a centre of excellence in saxophone and clarinet tuition while leading and inspiring our swing band and single reed ensembles. As Band Leader, you will direct rehearsals, prepare ensembles for performances and school events, and help cultivate a vibrant musical culture within the school. This element of the role is contracted for 4–5 hours per week during term time, with the potential for expansion in line with pupil demand and programme growth.
Alongside ensemble leadership, you will develop and grow a successful private teaching practice in saxophone and clarinet, delivering three ten-week blocks of tuition across the academic year. You will actively promote the woodwind provision, recruit and retain pupils, and inspire young musicians of all abilities to achieve their full potential. Through your teaching, you will foster a culture of musical excellence and encourage a lifelong appreciation of music in our students.
We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and highly skilled musician who is an accomplished teacher of both saxophone and clarinet. You will bring energy, creativity and strong organisational skills and will establish and sustain a reputation for excellence in woodwind performance. A proven ability to lead bands and ensembles to a high standard is also essential. This role would suit a candidate who is ambitious, entrepreneurial and passionate about developing young musicians through both individual tuition and ensemble performance.
