The Design Technology department at Wirral Grammar School for Girls aims to inspire students to be inquisitive, innovative and creative. We are seeking a well-qualified and enthusiastic teacher to join this outstanding and thriving department.
Current members of the department are fully qualified Design Technology specialists with the ability to teach Design Technology GCSE, D & T Product Design to KS5, D&T Fashion and Textiles to KS5 and Food Preparation and Nutrition to GCSE. There are two full time technicians in the department, one if Food Preparation and Nutrition and one for Product Design. The department has two workshops, one multimedia room, one food and nutrition room and two textile rooms. Students develop skills in working safely with a range of tools and equipment to produce high quality prototypes. Students also embrace the use of both CAD software, CNC routers, Laser cutters and 3D printing.
Design and Technology has grown in popularity within the school and students achieve exceptional grades in this subject area. All students in key stage 3 are taught Design Technology and at GCSE we follow AQA Design Technology with the option of following a Product Design Pathway or Textiles Pathway. In addition, students can opt to take Food Preparation and Nutrition (AQA specification). At A Level students can study AQA Product Design or Fashion and Textiles.
In addition to the academic curriculum, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the extra-curricular life of the department and the wider school community. The department offers many opportunities for students to develop their interests in the subject and students can also apply for an Arkwright Scholarship, providing a window into the world of technology and engineering.
