Teacher of Design Technology & Engineering (0.4FTE) - The New Beacon

The New Beacon School is a leading day and boarding prep school for boys aged 2-13, with a co-educational nursery, renowned for its commitment to excellence in education, sport and the arts. The School is seeking an enthusiastic and highly skilled Teacher of Design Technology & Engineering (DTE) from September 2026 on a part time basis (0.4FTE). The successful candidate will be passionate about DTE and able to inspire enjoyment and enthusiasm for the subject amongst pupils. Teaching pupils in Years 7 and 8, they will seek to continuously raise standards of pupil achievement, ensuring that the DTE curriculum is delivered in an engaging way. The department provides a breadth of technological, design, and real-world experiences, encouraging students to combine practical making skills with a deep understanding of materials and technical processes. From the early stages, boys are introduced to 3D problem-solving challenges, allowing them to think critically and develop solutions that address everyday needs. Using a variety of materials and cutting-edge technologies, such as computer-aided design and laser cutting, they learn to design and create products that showcase their ingenuity and practical skills. Through a hands-on and collaborative approach, boys gain the confidence to think independently and work as part of a team. They are encouraged to explore how thoughtful design can shape the world around them, preparing them to contribute meaningfully to an increasingly technological society.
