About this role
Epsom College is seeking to appoint a Teacher of Biology.
Epsom has a strong medical tradition, and this is reflected in the popularity of Biology as an A Level subject and in the number of pupils who apply for Medicine and biology-related degrees each year.
Well-resourced with six specialist laboratories, prep rooms and a large office space, the team of seven teachers supported by highly qualified technicians, draw on their considerable breadth of experience to deliver lessons that incorporate real-world examples, make synoptic links across the scientific disciplines, and break down abstract and complex concepts to inspire pupils in the subject.
The department has an excellent track record of exam outcomes, with 83% of the Edexcel Biology B A Level cohort achieving A*-B grades and 96% of year 11 gaining 9-7 in Edexcel IGCSE Biology in 2025. The Biology team also contribute towards the teaching of the small number of Double Award Science pupils and the Lower School Science course, which is designed to extend years 7 and 8 pupils beyond the national curriculum and prepare them for the three sciences at GCSE and beyond.
Pupils are regularly involved in extension activities within the department, including Dissection Club; the Curie Society, where pupils present their own papers on science topics; and the Medical Society, which utilises the College’s extensive links with the medical world to invite a wide range of distinguished speakers to talk on related topics.
