Sports Coaching Internship

We are seeking an ambitious, energetic, and highly motivated Coaching Intern to join our thriving Sports Department for the 2026–27 academic year. This is an outstanding opportunity for a sandwich placement student or recent graduate to gain hands-on, high-level experience within one of the UK’s leading independent school sports environments. Working alongside experienced Heads of Sport and specialist coaches, you will play an active role in coaching, fixtures, and the wider co-curricular programme across Rugby, Hockey, Football and/or Cricket, with opportunities from day one to lead sessions and support the development of pupils’ sporting journeys. You will gain broad coaching experience, take teams for fixtures (both midweek and Saturdays), and be fully immersed in the rhythm of a boarding school sports programme, including early mornings and co-curricular activities, while also benefiting from insight into strength and conditioning, performance analysis, and sports psychology. The role offers genuine responsibility, structured mentorship, and the chance to contribute to the personal development of young people through sport, alongside a strong foundation for a future career in coaching, teaching, or sport science. The position is a full-time, fixed-term internship for one academic year, based primarily at Sherborne Boys School with potential opportunities across the wider Sherborne Schools Group, reporting to the Director of Sport, and includes free shared accommodation in Sherborne along with all meals during term time, making this an exceptional opportunity to gain valuable experience without the burden of high living costs.
