About this role
As an SEN Assistant, your role has two core focuses. First, you will work within the SEN team to support the identification, assessment, and provision for students with special educational needs across the school. Second, you will take direct responsibility for managing and teaching the Lower Seniors Nurture Group – a small class of students with EAL and SEN barriers to learning. In this capacity, you will provide tailored academic support, foster an inclusive learning environment, and promote students‘ academic, social, and emotional development.
Key Responsibility:
Nurture Group:
Manages and teaches the Lower Seniors Nurture Group, a small group of students with EAL and SEN barriers to learning
Liaises with Head of Key Stage 3, and Math, Science, and English teachers to provide differentiated support for SEN Nurture Group students
Works within the SEN team to provide differentiated academic support based on student IEPs and personalized academic and pastoral targets
Plan and deliver highly differentiated learning activities, tailoring tasks and resources to meet individual SEN needs and support academic, social, and emotional development.
Utilises baseline assessment and academic performance data, including STAR Reader assessments, to inform planning, differentiation and targeted intervention strategies to support and maximise student progress.
Monitor, assess, and record individual student progress on a weekly basis, using this information to adapt provision and share outcomes with parents.
Communicate effectively each week with parents regarding student progress, behaviour, and support strategies, fostering positive home–school relationships.
Manage and support student behaviour within the nurture setting, creating a calm, structured, and inclusive environment that promotes engagement and emotional regulation.
Implement the school’s behaviour policy consistently, using praise and rewards to reinforce positive behaviour and applying sanctions appropriately
