Job Summary
The Secondary English Teacher at Canadian International School of Guangzhou designs and delivers English Language Arts classes for students in Grades 7 to 12 through the Alberta (Canada) curriculum. The teacher works collaboratively within the English department to develop a program that meets the needs of a broad range of students through curriculum support and extensions, targeted instruction, and ongoing monitoring of student progress.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Instruction
Teaches English Language Arts courses according to the Alberta (Canada) curriculum and school expectations
Provides additional support to students through tutorials twice a week
Enriches and extends the English Language Arts curriculum for students in Grades 7 to 12 who demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills in the mainstream program
Develops and implements specialized lesson plans, assignments, and assessments to challenge and engage all English learners
Differentiates instruction to meet all student learning needs
Curriculum Development
Collaborates with colleagues in the Secondary English department to develop the English Language Arts programming at the school
Moderates student work with the team to ensure standardization of assessments
Designs learning experiences that prepare students for a challenging high school English program (as specified in the Alberta Program of Studies), including the development of writing, reading comprehension, critical thinking, speaking, and presentation skills
Assessment and Evaluation
Continuously monitors student progress using varied forms of assessment aligned to learning outcomes
Provides regular, constructive feedback to students, parents, and relevant school stakeholders to guide learning and academic growth
Maintains detailed and accurate records of student performance and submits
