About this role
A resourceful, dynamic Tutor is sought for a short-term homeschooling role with a warm, intellectually curious, values-driven family in the Washington DC area. The family has a strong preference for a candidate who already has the right to live and work in the US, allowing them to start immediately. The successful candidate will continue the children's Montessori-inspired education, complemented by a broader curriculum, ensuring stability during this transitional period. The family seeks an exceptional educator who shares their educational philosophy and Christian faith, and who can integrate quickly into an established learning environment.
Students
The family have two children: an older girl, aged eight, and a younger boy, aged four. Both have been homeschooled from the outset, following a Montessori approach alongside elements of the local curriculum, and the parents remain fully committed to homeschooling with no plans for traditional schooling.
The older child is delightful, exceptionally polite, and highly independent. She organises her own learning, planning her day by selecting activities and priorities with only occasional adult guidance. She shows maturity beyond her years, enjoys thoughtful conversation with adults, and is academically capable, motivated, and accustomed to taking ownership of her learning within a carefully prepared environment.
The younger child already shows remarkable focus and enthusiasm for learning. More concrete in his thinking than his sister, he approaches new activities with confidence and takes genuine pride in his achievements without becoming competitive. Like his sister, he has benefited from a structured Montessori environment from an early age and is developing strong early literacy and numeracy skills.
Both children are exceptionally well-mannered, respectful, and a pleasure to be around. They eat meals together as a family, enjoy a wide variety of foods without fuss, and display a level of self-control and maturity rare
