Main purposes of the job
To provide formal and informal, recreational and social educational activities for children, having due regard to the varying age ranges.
To create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive playing environment.
To follow schools strategies for promoting positive behaviour during play.
To have responsibility for any mobile play equipment and its safe storage and to be responsible for reporting any faulty equipment to the relevant persons.
To promote and work to achieve the Every Child Matters outcomes.
To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children within the school.
Main responsibilities and tasks
To contribute and deliver an imaginative programme of activities, which offer children choice, new experiences and skills through which they gain in self-confidence and learn how to relate to others.
To monitor activities in order to make changes to the programme if needed.
To follow strategies for promoting positive behaviour working with individuals and groups of pupils to ensure there is co-operative behaviour during play activities.
To deal effectively with any behavioural issues following the school’s procedures at all times.
To actively engage with the children and ensure that they are active in purposeful and co-operative behaviour.
Ensure that during play children, gain self-confidence, interact fully and form relationships with others.
To identify and promote the inclusion of all pupils, ensuring equal assess to opportunities.
To encourage pupils to take ownership of their own activity choices.
Provide for the safety and well being of the children and their social, educational and recreational needs.
To assist with the general pastoral care of the pupils, including helping pupils who are distressed or unsettled.
To take all necessary precautions whilst in charge of the children to see that they do nothing that is likely to injure themselves or others.
