Introduction
Some young people need someone steady beside them before learning starts to feel possible again.
At our Nuneaton centre, we are looking for Learning Support Assistants to work closely with young people who need additional support to engage, build confidence and take part in practical learning. These roles are linked to learner funding and are offered as fixed-term, term-time only contracts from September to July.
This is not just about helping in a classroom. It is about noticing when a learner is struggling, helping them regulate, encouraging them back into the task, and building the kind of trust that makes progress possible. Some days will be straightforward. Some will not. What matters is that you stay calm, consistent and curious about what each young person needs.
You might be supporting learners in practical sessions, helping them follow routines, encouraging safe choices, or breaking tasks down so they feel manageable. You will work with tutors and the wider team to help learners feel settled, included and able to keep moving forward.
Key Responsibilities
Support learners in lessons, practical activities and centre routines.
Work 1:1 and with small groups to help learners stay focused, engaged and able to participate.
Build positive, consistent relationships that support confidence, attendance and progress.
Support learners with SEND, SEN and SEMH needs using calm, relationship-based approaches.
Help learners understand instructions, break tasks down and complete learning activities at an appropriate pace.
Encourage communication, teamwork, organisation and independence.
Respond calmly to behaviour or dysregulation, following agreed support plans
