About this role
Altura Independent Specialist School will be a small nurturing educational setting designed to support children and young people, aged between 7 and 16, with additional needs. This is an exciting and rare opportunity to help establish the school, initially supporting 24 students. The successful candidate will play a key role in building a culture of inclusion, high expectations and therapeutic support from the outset.
The Phase Leads will report directly into the Head Teacher and form part of the SLT.
Hours and Days
Monday to Thursday 8.30 - 4pm (0.8 FTE)
Role
The successful candidate will need to provide strategic and operational leadership for a designated phase, ensuring high-quality teaching, learning, and outcomes for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
The Phase Lead will drive consistency, support staff development, and ensure provision meets individual pupil needs, including those with complex profiles such as ASD, SEMH, and communication difficulties.
Leadership and Management
• Lead and manage the day-to-day running of the phase.
• Line manage teachers and teaching assistants within the phase.
• Model outstanding practice and maintain high expectations.
• Contribute to school development planning and evaluation.
• Ensure consistency across the phase.
Quality of Education
• Monitor and improve teaching and learning.
•Ensure curriculum is differentiated for SEND learners.
•Support planning, assessment, and adaptive teaching.
• Analyse pupil progress and implement interventions.
• Embed EHCP outcomes into practice.
Safeguarding and Behaviour
• Uphold safeguarding policies.
• Promote therapeutic behaviour approaches.
• Ensure consistent behaviour support.
• Support staff with complex behaviour.
SEND and Inclusion
• Ensure provision meets a range of SEND needs.
• Work with therapists and external professionals.
• Contribute to EHCP reviews.
• Promote inclusive practice.
Staff Development
