About this role
Role PurposeThe Junior School EAL Teacher plays a key role in supporting students for whom English is an Additional Language to access the curriculum fully and make strong academic and personal progress. The post holder will deliver high-quality EAL teaching, support inclusive classroom practice and work collaboratively with academic staff and the Head of Inclusion to ensure that all learners are valued, supported and challenged appropriately.

Key Responsibilities
1. EAL Teaching and LearningPlan, deliver and assess effective EAL lessons for Junior School students, using a range of appropriate teaching strategies to support language development.
Provide targeted EAL support through a combination of:
Small‑group withdrawal sessions
In‑class support and co‑teaching
Differentiated language scaffolding.
Assess students’ English language proficiency using appropriate assessments and maintain accurate records of progress.
Develop and maintain individual EAL learner profiles, including next steps, targets and recommended classroom strategies.
Support students’ academic language development across listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Promote consistent use of English as the shared language of learning, while valuing students’ home languages and backgrounds.
2. Inclusive Education and Student SupportContribute actively to the school’s inclusive education provision, ensuring EAL learners can access the curriculum alongside their peers.
Work closely with the Head of Inclusion to support students with overlapping needs (e.g. EAL learners with SEND or learning differences).
Support students’ social integration, confidence and wellbeing within an international and multicultural school community.
