About this role
We are seeking a Head of Prep at Sherfield School to provide strategic, educational and operational leadership for the Prep School, as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team. The role is responsible for driving high standards in teaching and learning, safeguarding, pastoral care, and pupil wellbeing, while ensuring a clear vision aligned with the whole-school strategy.
The postholder leads curriculum development, staff performance, and continuous school improvement, ensuring excellent academic progress and strong provision for all learners, including SEND and high-ability pupils. They act as Designated Safeguarding Lead or Deputy DSL, maintaining full compliance with safeguarding and regulatory requirements.
Operational responsibilities include overseeing the smooth day-to-day running of the Prep School, compliance with ISI standards, staffing structures, timetabling, and health and safety processes. The role also involves leading staff recruitment, development and performance management to build a high-performing, collaborative team.
A key aspect of the role is fostering strong relationships with parents and the wider school community through effective communication, events, and admissions support. The Head of Prep also ensures a rich co-curricular and enrichment programme, including sport, arts, outdoor learning, and educational visits, supporting pupils’ academic, social and personal development.
