An opportunity has arisen for a talented and passionate individual to join the Modern Foreign Languages Department at Haileybury as a French Language Assistant.
Role
The Modern Foreign Languages Department at Haileybury is a team of 15 dedicated teachers and language assistants who teach French, German, Spanish and Italian.
Within our highly international pupil community, languages are popular at Haileybury and we have a healthy number of pupils studying languages in the Sixth Form.
Beyond the classroom, we offer school trips abroad and a vast in-school extra-curricular offering which includes French, German, Italian and Spanish Societies, theatre trips, in-school theatre performances, language cafes, participation in external competitions and our ‘Languages Week’ in September comprising of inspiring talks from interpreters and university language professors.
In this role, you will work closely with the Head of French to plan and deliver engaging and effective French conversation lessons. You will support pupils across a range of abilities, including working with near-native speakers in small groups or individually to further develop their linguistic skills. You will also contribute to the wider work of the department through lesson planning, marking, record-keeping and ongoing communication regarding pupil progress.
The successful candidate will be educated to degree level and will demonstrate excellent communication skills, strong organisational ability, and a genuine enthusiasm for working with young people. They will be a native or near-native French speaker who is considering a career in teaching and is eager to inspire a lifelong love of languages in students.
