About this role
The Facilities Manager is responsible for the effective management, maintenance, safety and presentation of the School’s buildings, grounds and facilities.
The post holder will ensure that the School provides a safe, secure, compliant and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, parents and visitors. They will lead planned and reactive maintenance, premises compliance, contractor management, security, cleaning and other facilities-related services.
This is a practical and visible management role requiring strong organisation, sound judgement and a commitment to maintaining the high standards expected within an independent school.
Key Accountabilities :-
Facilities and premises management
Take day-to-day responsibility for the maintenance, operation and presentation of the School’s buildings and grounds.
Develop and manage planned and reactive maintenance programmes.
Carry out regular site inspections and ensure defects, hazards and repairs are addressed promptly.
Maintain accurate premises, asset, maintenance and compliance records.
Undertake minor practical repairs within personal competence and arrange specialist contractors where required.
Support refurbishment, capital works and longer-term estates planning.
Health, safety and compliance
Act as the School’s operational lead for premises-related health and safety.
Maintain the School’s compliance calendar and ensure statutory inspections, servicing and certification are completed on time.
Coordinate compliance in areas including fire safety, asbestos, water hygiene, gas, electrical systems, security and other relevant premises risks.
Support audits, inspections, risk assessments and health and safety meetings.
Monitor remedial actions and escalate significant risks or compliance failures promptly.
Ensure accurate records are maintained and available for audit or inspection.
Security and emergency arrangements
Oversee site security, access control, keys, alarms, CCTV and opening and closing arrangements.
