Cottesmore is seeking an inspiring and energetic teacher to teach English at our thriving co-educational boarding preparatory school.
This is a key academic appointment for someone who loves language, literature and the craft of excellent teaching. The successful candidate will have the vision and expertise to teach within a vibrant department and to inspire pupils of every ability through Key Stage 2 and 3. Year 8 is the final year at Cottesmore and they sit 13+ Common Entrance and Public School Scholarship examinations.
Team sport is a key component of Cottesmire life and the teaching team here contributes to the team sport programme, so this will be an important consideration.
We are looking for a teacher who combines intellectual ambition with warmth, imagination and a genuine understanding of children. The successful candidate will ensure that pupils in their care develop confidence as a readers, writers, speakers and thinkers, while also stretching our most able pupils towards exceptional scholarship outcomes.
The role
The postholder will teach English across the prep school, helping pupils to develop confidence, curiosity and a genuine enjoyment of language and literature. Working closely with colleagues, they will help deliver an ambitious curriculum, prepare pupils for senior-school entry and contribute fully to the academic, pastoral and co-curricular life of Cottesmore.
Key responsibilities include:
● delivering engaging and challenging English lessons across the prep-school age and ability range
● contributing to the preparation of pupils for academic scholarship examinations and Common Entrance
● inspiring pupils through ambitious teaching that develops analytical thinking, creativity
