About this role
International School Brunei is recruiting a motivated and experienced English as an Additional Language Teacher.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience of teaching English as an Additional Language in a Secondary School context to students with a range of proficiency levels from elementary to advanced.
The position will initially be a part-time position with an estimated 2 hours of teaching per day Monday to Friday.
Essential Requirements
Specialist EAL Qualifications: A recognized qualification specifically in teaching English to speakers of other languages, such as a specialized TESOL/TEFL diploma, MA in TESOL, or state/national EAL specialist endorsement.
Teaching Experience: A minimum of 2 years of successful teaching experience within a secondary school environment.
Language Proficiency: Native or near-native fluency in English (written and spoken) with deep foundational knowledge of English grammar, syntax, and phonology.
Curriculum & Framework Knowledge: Familiarity with mainstream secondary academic frameworks and scaffolding strategies to help students access subject-specific content such as WIDIA, Cambridge, and the CEFR.
Background Clearances: A clean international criminal background check and current safeguarding/child protection certification.
Desirable Requirements
Professional Teaching Qualification: A bachelor's degree in Education, or a bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline coupled with a recognized post-graduate teaching certification (e.g., PGCE, State/Provincial Teaching License).
International Experience: Prior experience working within a multicultural international school environment or an overseas setting.
Curriculum Specifics: Direct experience working within international curricula such as the International Baccalaureate (IB Middle Years Programme or Diploma Programme) or Cambridge International (IGCSE/A-Levels) or in preparing students for specific EAL qualifications including IELTS.
