Contract Type: Temporary / Substitute (May 7 – June 7, with possibility of extension through the end of the school year)
Position SummaryWe are seeking a caring, attentive, and responsive Early Years Instructional Assistant (Substitute) to support our 12–18 months classroom. This temporary role ensures continuity of care and learning, working closely with the Lead Teacher to provide a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for our youngest learners.
The role focuses on supporting daily routines, building strong relationships with children, and contributing to a calm, respectful, and responsive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Care & Daily RoutinesSupport feeding, diapering, sleeping, and daily care routines with attention and respect
Ensure children’s physical and emotional needs are consistently met
Assist with transitions in a calm and predictable manner
Maintain high standards of hygiene, including diapering, handwashing, and cleaning routines, in alignment with school health and safety policies
Social-Emotional SupportBuild warm, secure, and responsive relationships with each child
Support early communication and emotional development
Respond sensitively to cues, needs, and emerging independence
Instructional SupportSupport the Lead Teacher in implementing age-appropriate experiences
Engage with children through play, exploration, and interaction
Follow guidance to support a responsive, play-based environment
Observation & DocumentationObserve children’s development, interests, and interactions
Share observations with the teacher to support understanding and planning
Learning EnvironmentAssist in preparing and maintaining safe, clean, and inviting spaces
Support the setup of materials that encourage exploration and movement
Ensure all materials meet safety and hygiene standards
Collaboration & Professional PracticeWork closely and respectfully with the Lead Teacher
