Wellington School is seeking to appoint an exceptional Director of Drama to join us from September 2026 or January 2027.
This is a rare opportunity not only to lead a thriving and highly regarded Drama Department, but also to shape, grow and strategically develop Performing Arts provision across the South West.
As a centre of excellence for Drama, you will oversee a flourishing creative programme that includes Stage School and Dance School, while building new partnerships and strengthening established professional relationships. You will play a pivotal role in driving the strategic vision, artistic direction and commercial development of this dynamic area of school life.
Working within outstanding facilities alongside a small, passionate team, you will have the freedom to innovate, develop ambitious productions and inspire the next generation of actors, performers and creative practitioners.
About the role
Reporting to the Deputy Head (Co-Curricular), you will:
Lead and develop the Drama Department, ensuring excellence in teaching, learning and performance
Teach Drama across a wide age range, predominantly Key Stages 3–5
Direct high-quality school productions and oversee co-curricular performance opportunities
Oversee LAMDA provision and support individual pupil development in performance
Lead and manage Stage School and Dance School as key commercial and outreach programmes
Develop external partnerships, including professional agencies and industry links
Drive the strategic growth and visibility of Performing Arts within and beyond the School
Contribute to assessment, curriculum development and departmental planning
Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding, pastoral care and student wellbeing
