Deputy Headteacher

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a conscientious, capable and ambitious individual to help lead our high performing and prestigious school.

Finham Park has two deputy headteachers with the successful candidate taking strategic responsibility for the curriculum, teaching & learning, achievement and inclusion. Roles and responsibilities may change over time as staffing evolves and priorities alter, so we will be looking for a highly experienced leader with a broad skillset who would also be willing and able to adjust accordingly as required.

The role carries significant responsibility and accountability. The successful candidate will need to be able to manage in a high-pressure environment with multiple demands on their time. They will need to demonstrate that they can remain calm, focussed and people centred at all times. We are looking for an individual who is able to build strong relationships, communicate effectively and prioritise strategically to leverage their capacity to the greatest effect.

The successful candidate can expect to join a loyal, committed and able group of senior leaders who are passionate about ensuring the best outcomes for students and creating an environment where staff and students can thrive. We are a team who are quick to laugh, enjoy spending time in the company of each other, but are also able to have open and frank discussions to ensure that the best decisions are made. While there is much that we can celebrate as a school, we also recognise that there are lots of things we can do better to ensure that the experiences we provide for our community are genuinely world class.

Finham Park School is part of the Finham Park MAT. We work closely with other schools across the Trust to share best practice and make shared strategic decisions. Senior leaders sit on Trust working parties and build strong working relationships with other leaders across the network. The Trust central team provide excellent support for school leaders and are quick to respond to any enquiries.

About the school

Finham Park is a popular and successful 11 -18 comprehensive school situated in the south-west of Coventry. It has an excellent reputation within the local community as well as nationally and internationally. The school performs consistently well across all measures with attendance and exam results exceeding both regional and national averages.

Strong character is central to our approach, and our five Finham values of kindness, integrity, humility, courageousness and perseverance are at the heart of all we do. The school is well resourced. New technologies are widely available and are helping to transform teaching and learning across a diverse range of subjects. In addition, ongoing investment ensures our facilities remain extensive and well maintained.

Staff morale is high. The school leadership has a genuine commitment to staff wellbeing, and many staff members have completed their whole careers within the organisation. As a community, we seek to ‘positively notice’ others, perhaps best seen in our weekly Feel Good Friday celebrations. Staff are empowered to develop and experiment professionally in an environment which prioritises psychological safety and mutual appreciation.

A particular strength of the school is the comprehensive CPD programme. Finham Park believes in utilising its existing expertise from colleagues, and thus all staff are encouraged to offer CPD to the rest of the school. Therefore, weekly sessions of CPD are offered and staff sign up for their areas of interest. We have a broad induction programme for all new staff and trainees. Finham Park has also been instrumental in creating Teaching and Learning Communities as part of our CPD programme. This follows the ideas and research of Dylan William. This has sustained a culture of curiosity and development in the classroom of which, we at Finham, are immensely proud.
