College and Academic Counselor

Job DescriptionThe College and Academic Counselor reports to the MSHS Vice Principal and is responsible for administering all aspects of the college search, application process, admissions process, financial aid processes and for keeping accurate records regarding all tertiary institutions to where students apply, where students are accepted and rejected, and where students matriculate. Running records are to be presented twice monthly to the SLT Team. The College Counselor assesses incoming students’ transcripts for credit transfer into TAS. The College Counselor, in concert with the Vice Principal, creates the master course schedule for faculty and students, including course offerings, student course selection, and overseeing the add/drop process. The College Counselor advises students (from semester 2 grade 8 students through Grade 12 students) on an appropriately rigorous course of study to ensure they meet graduation requirements and are positioning themselves for competitive university applications. The College Counselor will organize and oversee parent information seminars regarding, but not limited to, the college/university application process. (“Parent Institutes”) The College Counselor builds relationships with external college / university tour agencies to secure a number of on-campus university recruiting events, both in the fall and spring semesters. (UnivAssist; Access American Education (AAE); American Education Opportunity (AEO) Fairs) The College Counselor acts as the school’s PSAT and SAT Administrator, overseeing all aspects of PSAT and SAT exam administrations. QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITIONNecessary skills include excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational ability, and the ability to meet deadlines. Experience in college admissions or high school college counseling, teaching experience, and computer skills are pluses.
