Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for Transition

We are seeking an ambitious and highly effective Assistant Headteacher to lead and develop our transition and foundational learning provision across the school. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced middle or senior leader with a strong background in Key Stage 2 practice and a passion for ensuring every pupil secures the essential knowledge, skills and confidence needed for long-term success. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting pupils’ transition into secondary education, with a particular focus on literacy, numeracy and foundational learning. They will work strategically with colleagues, families and partner primary schools to ensure continuity, high expectations and excellent outcomes for all learners. The role includes responsibility for: Leading and coordinating transition provision from Key Stage 2 into Key Stage 3 Developing high-quality foundational learning programmes to support pupils who require additional academic support Raising standards in English and Maths through evidence-informed practice Supporting curriculum adaptation and intervention strategies for pupils with gaps in prior learning Coaching and developing staff to deliver high-quality teaching and learning Monitoring pupil progress and implementing targeted support to improve outcomes Strengthening partnerships with feeder primary schools and external agencies We are particularly keen to hear from candidates who: Are experienced KS2 specialists with a strong understanding of primary pedagogy and transition Have a proven track record of successful teaching in English and Maths Understand the barriers faced by pupils entering secondary education below age-related expectations Are passionate about inclusion, foundational learning and securing excellent outcomes for all pupils Have successful leadership experience and the ability to inspire staff and students alike Are committed to high standards, innovation and collaborative working Downham Market Academ
