About this role

37.5 hours per week, full-time (52 weeks per year), plus half an hour unpaid lunch break. Working day will be 9am to 6pm (with a one hour lunch break and 2 x 15 min breaks). The Role We are looking to expand our Estates Team and appoint an additional Assistant Caretaker (Community & Site). The role is a combination of maintaining a secure environment on site, whilst continuing with the friendly, community feel of the College, as well as contributing to the caretaking and maintenance tasks around the site. The successful candidate will be joining a pro-active, hands-on team who work together to ensure the smooth running of the College site. The team currently consists of the Estates & Facilities Manager, Head Caretaker plus 3 other site staff. This will be an additional role to support the growth of student numbers at the College. The role is centred on providing a visible, approachable security presence that promotes a safe and welcoming atmosphere for students, staff, and visitors. This includes conducting regular patrols, monitoring access points and car parks, and helping to ensure that only authorised individuals and vehicles are on site. A key aspect of this responsibility is engaging positively with students, reinforcing expectations such as wearing ID lanyards and maintaining appropriate behaviour. The Assistant Caretaker also supports the use of security systems, including CCTV and alarms, and may act as a key holder, responding to callouts when needed.. Alongside security duties, the position involves supporting a wide range of caretaking and maintenance tasks to ensure the college remains safe, clean, and well-maintained. This includes assisting with basic repairs, general DIY work, and preventative maintenance, as well as contributing to cleaning and waste management tasks. The role also supports the logistical side of college life, such as receiving deliveries, moving furniture and equipment, and preparing spaces for events such as examinations,
